People watching is a fun thing to do in winter. For, as I see, the light of the sun acts differently in the cold air. Or something.
You see, I was in a parade today and while we were waiting everyone in my band snuggled into little groups of their friends. They stood around or sat on curbs together aside from the color guard who were singing their flags about willy nilly.
They were my first subjects. Their flags made such an astounding noise as they ripped through the air and a ear-shattering "ping" noise when they were dropped. These sounds readly compete with the sound of roll-healed shoes on cement for my favorite sound.
I also notices the colors that danced about their bodies. The gold of their sequined dresses glittered in an eye catching way and clashed in battle with the black of their under-suits. The red and white of their Santa hats bothered me quite a lot for, while these colors combined in another way are fetching, they looked horrid on top of their heads. Strange thing was when I glimpsed at their eye and cheek glitter it shined gold, violet, and blue when the glitter was merely a clean shade of gold-like yellow.
At this time I turned from the sounds and colors of the flag twirlers to my fellow instrument players. All of them were grouped on the opposite side of the street from me so it wasn't to hard to see them all.
In their groups they made rather large puffs of white breath clouds as if they were all breathing at the same time. I wonder if this is true? Also, the sun lit up the side of their maroon uniforms with a gold-like hue.
I also noticed that they were all in small section groups. It always confuses me as to why my band fellows seem to stay within their section when there were plenty of others to socialize with. I myself am a flautist and I find friends in mostly clarinet and trumpet sections. I stray from other flautists because I see most of them as stuck up or confusingly annoying.
Ah band~ How you confuse and amuse me at the same time.
